I'm so tired of being here,

Suppressed by all my childish fears.

Aelita was sitting beside a grave, the grave of her son, Jacob. He had died 2 days ago. Sadly enough, his father was on a trip. The trip lasted 2 weeks, and he would be back tomorrow. On his birthday. Earlier, Jeremie had told her that all he wanted for his birthday was to see his wife’s and son’s smiling faces when he returned. Now, he couldn’t even get that.


These wounds won't seem to heal,

This pain is just too real.

There's just too much that time cannot erase...



Jakie… Jakie was gone. That was Aelita’s nickname for her son; Jeremie had always winced when she called Jacob that. Aelita felt like crying after remembering all this, yet, somehow, it was comforting. Jakie’s friends had been here, Maria and Little Connor. Little Connor, as you probably noticed, was a nickname, his real name being Connor. His parents took, and were still taking, good care of him. Maria, as everyone said, was a clone of her mother, just smaller. She had the same raven-black hair and blue eyes. Jakie and Connor called her Feisty Maria, just to get on her bad side. If you had seen Yumi’s temper, you knew what her daughter’s was like.

Jakie was 7½ when he died. Connor was 2 months younger (more or less), and Maria was about a year older than the two of them. Their parents were always proud of each of them. Aelita remembered Jakie’s kindergarten year all too well. That year, Jakie and Little Connor had thins annoying teacher named Mrs.McDowan. She always said “and…?” after you were done saying something. That year, Maria had gotten an annoying teacher as well. The teacher called her Mary until the last week of school. The teacher, learning that she was mistaken, then believed that Maria’s name was Marie.


You used to captivate me,

By your resonating light.

Now I'm bound by the life you left behind.

Your face it haunts, my once pleasant dreams.

Your voice it chased away, all the sanity in me.



He had been dead for 2 days, 2 whole days of torture for Aelita. Today marked the beginning of the 3rd. She hadn’t slept much. When she did, her dreams were plagued with Jacob’s face and voice. She thought that she was steadily going crazy.

Jakie…why him? Aelita would wonder why God had taken her precious son. She wondered what He needed with Jakie…oh, she missed him so much.


I've tried so hard to tell myself that you're gone,

But though you're still with me...

I've been alone all along.



The day Jacob had died, Aelita had been in denial. She would refuse to believe that he had departed from the land of the living, no matter what Yumi and Sam said.

Aelita got up, rain falling on her face. She felt a tear trickle down her cheek as she got up. There would never be another Jacob “Jakie” Belpois, never. She gave one last look at the gravestone before she turned around to go to her empty house, knowing that only she and her husband would live there now.

Fallen
